Dubliners dress for winter as Ireland’s miserable weather continues

It was like a scene from bleak midwinter. Umbrellas, hoods, trench coats, puffer jackets and wellies were the look of the day in Dublin this August bank holiday weekend.

Many shoppers in the capital’s fashionable Grafton Street were more suitably dressed for a hike on a Mayo mountainside in mid-November than a summer stroll in the capital.

Leonor Bethencourt, a tour guide explaining the history of the Irishman who inspired the fictional character Zorro, led a group of just two hardy tourists on a walk around South William Street.

Bethencourt said she was forced to wear Wellington boots to keep her feet dry as she trudged through the many puddles in her path on the city streets.

She said her black Zorro mask also helped
